Understanding Scrub Uniform Materials
Alexandra’s scrubs are made from polycotton, a 65% polyester to 35% cotton material. The mix of man-made and natural fibres maintains the benefits of both:
- Strong: The plastic polyester in polycotton strengthens the natural wool to form a much more durable material.
- Comfortable: Polyester is strong but it isn’t very breathable. Whereas cotton allows for a better transfer of heat. By combining the two, you get the perfect material for scrubs.
- Washable to 60ºC: Polycotton can withstand high temperatures. These high temperatures minimise the risk of infection and contamination through the washing process.
Choosing the Right Size for Your Scrubs
Making sure your scrubs are a good fit is vital for looking professional and working in comfort.
Please measure carefully if requesting embroidery to be added to your garment. Once embroidery has been added you can’t return your garments. When measuring yourself, ensure that the tape is held flat and not tight.
- Chest: Measure over the fullest part of the chest under the arms and straight across the back.
- Waist: Measure 3cm below navel with the tape snug but not tight.
- Inside Leg: Measure from the crotch to the desired trouser length.
How to Care for Your Scrub Uniforms
When washing your scrubs, a double wash is the best method for thorough disinfecting. Turn your scrubs inside out to prevent pilling and colour fade. Then, put them in the washing machine by themselves on a cold wash cycle with regular detergent.
This first wash is the wash for removing stains from your scrubs. The second wash is for disinfecting. Wash in hot water with colour-safe bleach to disinfect the scrubs. Be sure to check that all the stains came out during the first wash because stains will set in hot water.
