Alexandra Attends the RCN Awards

On Thursday 6th October the RCN Nursing Awards took place at their headquarters, Cowdray Hall, based in London. The awards, hosted by Judi Love, Presenter, and comedian, celebrated the UK’s incredible nurses and the amazing work they do.

With 13 awards in total, this event celebrates a nurse’s contribution to improving care and outcomes for people of all ages and all walks of life.

Alexandra, headline sponsors of the event also sponsor the Patient’s choice award. This award, voted for by the public, provides the opportunity for members of the public to nominate a nurse, midwife, health visitor or nursing support worker that has made a difference to their, or a loved one’s care.

Hayley Brooks, Chief Executive Officer, Mi Hub attended the event and presented the Patients Choice award to the 2022 winner, Sarah Malik, a Specialist Information and Support Nurse at Compassion in Dying.

Sarah was nominated by Elizabeth Pepper, the wife of a patient with Parkinson’s. Sarah provided them both with unconditional support throughout her patient’s life and ensured her patient had the death he wanted, at home surrounded by his loved ones. 

Upon winning the Patients Choice Award, Sarah said ‘It feels really meaningful. And I’m happy for the opportunity to focus on what needs to happen to support more people to have the end of life that is right for them.’ 

‘I love the work I do, and I feel proud that the work we all do at Compassion in Dying has been “seen”.

Deborah Gobey, Head of Marketing, Mi Hub and Patients Choice award judge was also in attendance at the event and commented, ‘It was such an honour to be on the judging panel and I was delighted to be able to attend the awards representing Alexandra, Congratulations to all the 2022 finalists and winners, their stories were truly inspirational.’.
