Alexandra, taking positive steps to care for our wearers and our planet, a stitch at a time…

It is well documented how climate change is affecting the globe, and like many of our wearers, sustainability and the bigger ESG picture, is extremely important to us at Alexandra, with us all working together to make positive changes to our behaviour, where we can, to benefit the planet. Here at Alexandra, our companies’ ESG initiatives and how we can better support the world around us, is never far from our thoughts, with us constantly striving to implement positive steps in the way in which we operate and carry out business. On this page, we highlight a small snippet of the things we’ve implemented, are conscious of and the polices, communities and initiatives we support as a business…

Recycled Polyester:

Did you know that we use recycled polyester in many of our garments across the Alexandra ranges? We certainly do – from our suiting ranges to our polo shirts, we have a number of products which use recycled polyester.

What are the benefits of recycled polyester?

Using recycled polyester, gives a second life to those products that aren’t biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfill sites or our oceans. We are all aware of the negative impacts that non-biodegradable products have on the planet, with vast landfill sites across the country and with over 8 million metric tons of plastic entering the ocean every year, negatively affecting our planet and our wildlife.

Using recycled polyester also has many benefits to you as a wearer too. The fabric is durable and can be washed at high temperatures, where required (healthcare, more specifically), is lightweight, colourfast (keeps its colour for longer), crease-resistant and quick drying – what more could you ask for?

So next time you purchased a recycled polyester garment, remember you are doing your bit to help our planet!

Alexandra Eco Range:

At Alexandra sustainability and the step into ethical workwear is extremely important to us, just as we know it is for our wearers. So, in 2023 we launched our very own sustainable, Eco Range collection of garments within the Healthcare and Hospitality sectors.

Kind to you, and kind to the planet too – Alexandra’s Eco range is made using a 50/50 blend of Tencel branded lyocell and polyester fibres.

Tencel fibres are produced using environmentally responsible processes from sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. These fibres are known for their natural comfort and their unique physical properties providing efficient moisture absorption (moisture-wicking) to keep the wearer cool and to keep garments more hygienic for clinical environments.

The addition of polyester ensures high colourfastness and a fabric that can be industrially laundered, providing a long-lasting uniform customers can rely on, whilst also remaining comfortable for the duration of their shift.

Proud BCI Cotton Members:

As part of the Mi Hub group, Alexandra are proud members of the BCI Cotton initiative.

What is the BCI Cotton Initiative?

Better Cotton is the World’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton. With the main mission of the initiative, to help cotton communities survive and thrive whilst also protecting the environment.

Cotton is one of the world’s most important renewable natural resources. Safeguarding the growing and production of it is essential. In 2005, as part of a round-table initiative convened by WWF, a group of visionary organisations came together to make sure cotton had a sustainable future. Initial support came from organisations such as adidas, Gap Inc., H&M, ICCO Cooperation, IKEA, International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Organic Exchange, Oxfam, Pesticide Action Network (PAN) UK and WWF.*
